A fuller explanation of the details:

The Green Co-Op is the community space designed to tap into local networks of members, community groups, churches and schools across the region. Some cities in the region have many green groups and organizations, some have scattered efforts but there is no structured way for them to organize and share information.

— The Green Rocket will form a regional editorial board of citizens, businesses and journalists based on a predetermined level of financial support to the enterprise. We will use All of Our Ideas, an open source survey based tool developed at Princeton University, to rate and discuss topic ideas for further reporting.

— Businesses can share their efforts in adopting more sustainable practices and solicit responses from co-op members without the obligation of financial support other than buying a subscription. Their only financial commitment will be to buy a subscription. Their ideas will compete equally with other members of the Co-Op. If additional financial support grows organically and is supported by the editorial board, we’ll explore it. This is a new model.

— The co-operative will serve as an idea generator for Green Rocket editors and freelance reporters and also as a conduit for news consumers to reach skilled storytellers. Trained journalists will participate in discussing issues and pitching stories ideas to news consumers on the editorial board. Conversely the board will commission ideas of its own to freelancers.

— The Co-op will also assist members who need help getting their stories told. The Full Circle section features stories with strong personal narratives that describe the Circle of Life. Babies being born and the hope they bring, loved ones passing and the memories they leave, qualify. Rites of passage, traditions passed along to us, or traditions we pass along to others are welcome. This is the place where we take the time to reflect and tell those stories that mean so much to us but are rarely shared with others. These are the types of stories that reader’s value and journalists, generally, do not. No doubt there will be many good ideas coming from members who are uncomfortable with their writing or photography skills. Other members, or journalists will be available to offer guidance or even paid services.
