There are lessons in the hard pictures

Bus Hijacking, San Antonio, TX, November 1985 — These are hard pictures to look at but that’s kind of the point. It was tragic. Scanner traffic reported a man had hi-jacked a city bus at a shopping mall on the north side of town. Ronald Ennis went on a hit-and-run rampage. He ran a tow truck off the road and rammed into a police car. I think he caused eleven accidents including one six-car wreck that injured two people. Only when he rammed a small car into a delivery van did he finally kill someone — a three-year-old girl who had been sitting in the backseat of this car driven by her mother pictured here. In the picture above, Ed Slater the arresting officer straddles Ennis’s back. He found the man’s two-day-old release form from a mental hospital tucked in his pocket.
